Ex-students' inspiring visit

Ex-students Poppy Stuart and Owen Turnbull visited the Academy today to talk to current students about their adventures since leaving Shotton Hall.

Poppy, who went on to study A Levels at English Martyr's Sixth Form is now studying English at Oxford University, and Owen, who went on to do his A Levels at Durham Johnston Sixth Form, is now studying physics at Durham University.

The straight-A ex-students spoke to a group of gifted and talented pupils, explaining to them their pathway to university and the hard work and dedication involved in gaining access to these elite courses and institutions.

Mr Davies, who organised the talk as part of ongoing careers lectures and visits, said that the afternoon had been very worthwhile and inspiring for everyone.

Recalling how dedicated Poppy and Owen were at school he said: "Their hard work is really paying off and I have no doubt that they will go on to have fantastic and rewarding careers. Seeing ex-students who have aimed high and gained access to the best universities will be a real motivator for our current students to follow in their footsteps."
