In year KS4, you will begin studying towards a Level1/2 Technical Award. On the NCFE specification, you will be assessed by an NEA – non-exam assessment (60% of overall grade) and an externally set exam (40% of overall grade).
Unit 1 – Design and Production in context - Key social factors, features and design practitioners of key design movements from 1860 to present date.
Unit 2 – Design Materials and Processes - Properties, characteristics and costs of materials used in the design process for a range of design production disciplines, including design and manufacture process
Unit 3 – Design Brief and Production Process - Importance of working in response to design brief requirements. Understand design proposals and how these are created. Understand importance of communication skills and modification of a design solution in response to feedback.
Unit 4 – Presentation of a Design Solution – Purposes of presentation, Methods of presentation, Presentation skills for a design solution
Unit 5 – Review of process and solution - How to review design process and production. Understand the process of summative review of a design solution against design principles, the design process and whether it meets a design brief.
Unit 6 – Working in the Design Production Industry - Understand employment, career and entrepreneurial opportunities in the design production industry. Understand self promotion and product promotion
